O Panneerselvam sworn in as new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, retains Jaya Cabinet

Following the demise of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, O Panneerselvam was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a simple function held at Raj Bhavan in the wee hours of Tuesday. Along with him 31 Cabinet Ministers were also sworn in. Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to the Council of Ministers. For Panneerselvam, it is the third term as Chief Minister. Earlier, he held the office in 2001 and 2014. After he assumed the office, the rest of the Ministers took the oath together and the swearing in ceremony was over within 10 minutes. In a recent research, experts from acoustics and psychology teamed up to to understand how children process emotion in speech and how it might influence their development. Presented at the Acoustical Society of America and Acoustical Society of Japan joint meeting, the study could help in child development accordingly. The team used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to capture real-time information about the brain activity of children while they listening to samples of their mothers’ voice with different affects — or non-verbal emotional cues. IIT-Guwahati scientists have developed a nanofibrous wound-healing mat that interacts with cells and helps scar heal faster without scarring. This mat is made of PVA, a non-protein polymer mixed with silk protein and varnished with an antibiotic and epidermal growth factor.  Even the wounds that are 6mm in diameter can be healed from this mat by the smart material that accelerates the healing process. On 17 November 2016, the three Municipal Corporations in Delhi announced the complete waiver of interest and penalty fees on property tax if the arrears are paid before 28th February 2017. This amnesty scheme has been available since 18 November and applies to both residential and commercial properties. After 28 February of next year, there will be certain penalties to be paid for the outstanding property taxes. From 1 – 31 March, 50% interest will have to be paid on the arrears although the other penalties shall be waived off. Keeping in mind the backlog of dues over the years, the scheme was launched by the BJP-ruled civic bodies in the national capital.
