Is Demonetization of High Value Currency Notes Worth All Current trouble Caused

Opinion
To understand this lets take an example - you are walking on a road. A thorn pierces your heel and the thorn contains a sort of slow poison, though you are not aware of this and ignores it thinking of it as a small issue. Now you feel pain therefore takes a pain killer. However, even after taking the pain killer, the pain returns after a couple of days. You take a double dose of the pain-killer, but again the pain returns after a week. Now, the pain killers are of no use whatsoever. The poison has become stronger with time. Meanwhile you also noticed swelling in your heels so you decide to go to a doctor. The doctor takes a scan and a test and says that the thorn had a slow poison which has now slowly started infecting your blood. However, there is still hope. The doctor says that the poi...
Stress may have different impact on the young female brain

Stress may have different impact on the young female brain

Lifestyle
Traumatic stress may have different impact in the brains of adolescent boys and girls, according to a new brain-scanning study. The study found structural differences between the sexes in one part of the insula, a brain region among the youth with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or seeing a terrifying event. “The insula appears to play a key role in the development of PTSD. The difference we saw between the brains of boys and girls who have experienced psychological trauma is important because it may help explain differences in trauma symptoms between sexes,” said Victor Carrion, Professor at Stanford University in California. “Our findings suggest it is possible that boys and girls could exhibit different trauma symptoms and ...
New Portable Breath Analyser makes diagnosis of diabetes painless

New Portable Breath Analyser makes diagnosis of diabetes painless

Health
Researchers at the University of Oxford have developed a new, portable breath analyser that could someday help doctors diagnose diabetes without painful pinpricks, needles or other unpleasant methods. Many studies examining the hallmarks of diabetes in exhaled breath have shown that elevated levels of acetone are strongly linked to diabetes. Detecting the concentrations of any given substance in breath in a simple way, however, is a major challenge. Breath contains a complex mix of compounds, including water, carbon dioxide and methane, that can throw results off. A technique called mass spectrometry can do the job, but it is not very practical for point-of-care testing. Robert Peverall from University of Oxford and colleagues wanted to fill that void. The researchers created a hand-h...

Why Black Money is ‘Bad’?

Why Black Money is ‘Bad’?

Opinion
We have been trying to find colour in this bicolored black and white world. When it comes to the colour of money, it gets more covert and enthralling. We have been hearing about lakhs and thousands of crores of “black money” being amassed away in “benaam” bank accounts, “chupa rustam” lockers, tax havens and even in big boots of imported bravura cars of loaded businessmen, corrupt officials, mafias and some “honest” politicians. So what does this term “Black Money” or “Kala Dhan” which we habitually hear our society use for anyone who lives a lavish lifestyle actually mean? Where does it come from? Where can it be used? As Wikipedia suggests, “Black money refers to funds earned on the black market, on which income and other taxes have not been paid.” Sounds tricky, right? I be...

The Nearest Earth-Like Planet Outside Our Solar System ‘GJ 1132b’ Could Be a Water World

Entertainment
At a distance of 4.2 light years, Proxima b is the closest potentially habitable Earth-like planet outside our solar system. New research suggests this distant orb could be completely covered in water. So when do we go? This past August, scientists with the European Southern Observatory (ESO) confirmed the discovery of a rocky planet in the habitable zone of Proxima Centauri-our nearest neighboring star. Little is known about this distant planet and whether it has what it takes to foster alien life, but a new study accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal posits the suggestion that Proxima b is covered with oceans, and possibly even a single massive ocean that envelops the entire planet. Proxima b is a fascinating target for study, and not just because it’s an Earth-like p...
