Time has come to take Pakistan-occupied Kashmir back: Baba Ramdev

Bihar
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has come out with a very specific demand for the Narendra Modi government- take Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) back from Pakistan. Terming PoK as the root cause of the persistent Kashmir unrest, he said PM should work in this direction to rid the northern state from its longstanding turmoil. "PoK was the cause of all the problems in Jammu and Kashmir. The only solution I think at this point of time is India acquiring the PoK territory into its own. It's because of PoK that Pakistan was successful in pushing terrorists in to India. PM should look into this issue and make a start in a phased manner to acquire PoK", said Baba Ramdev. Baba Ramdev who is holding a Yoga camp in Motihari for last three days said that apart from the problem of PoK, Hizbul chief Hafeez S...

Why Do Leaders Fail at Their Jobs?

Why Do Leaders Fail at Their Jobs?

Lifestyle
Recently, I summed up in one sentence exactly why people quit their jobs. Well, actually, Gallup CEO Jim Clifton did, stating that the real reason is due to bad managers. That’s based on decades of data and interviews with 25 million employees, Gallup found. Naturally, the next question should be why? This is what I aim to answer here as a follow up: “Why do leaders fail at their jobs, exactly?” First, we need a clear definition of what great leadership looks like, as a backdrop to answer that question in one succinct sentence. I’m going to put everything on the line here. If you were to ask these ten of the world’s most successful leaders about their roles as CEOs of their respective companies, I would wager that every single one of them would tell you that a leader’s ultimate role (...

Powerful Leadership Lesson by the Co-Founder of Southwest Airlines

Lifestyle
In our discussion about business success we talk a lot about the importance of grit, failure, and even time management. But in our conversations about leadership one thing doesn’t seem to come up often: humility. I recently keynoted the conference where I spoke about innovation and leadership, which prompted a lot of follow-up conversations with the attendees. But one story, told to me by Gregg Gregory, the founder of Teams Rock and a public speaker, was especially fascinating. It was a story of humble leadership. About fifteen years ago Gregory was boarding the Southwest flight flying out of Orlando, Florida. Way in front of him in the boarding line he noticed a man with a giant Mickey Mouse baseball hat on. He didn’t think anything about it until he walked onto the plane and saw tha...

‘Dress for Success’ Still Matters, Possibly More than Ever

Lifestyle
First impressions are unavoidable. You can spend a long time trying to convince others of your qualities, but you’ll have a difficult time being perceived as genuine if your appearance doesn’t sync with the values you’re trying to express. The image you choose to portray to others is a big reflection of your true self, but the opposite effect can also be achieved. Ever heard the slogan “dress for success”? It’s true. Research psychologist Jeffrey L. Magee surveyed over 500 firms to assess the impact of dress in the workplace. His studies led to the conclusion that continually relaxed dress ultimately leads to relaxed manners, relaxed morals and relaxed productivity. Magee’s findings shouldn’t come as a surprise. Here’s why. It’s simple psychology. Think about your own experience. ...

“I found my life got bigger when I stopped caring about what people thought of me.” : Tim Cook

Lifestyle
Tim Cook urged Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s class of 2017 to use their minds, hands, and heart to build something bigger than themselves, and to never lose sight of their humanity. Apple’s CEO told the graduates on Friday morning that they must keep their morals at the center of what they do. “Measure your impact on humanity not in likes but in the lives you touch, not in popularity but the people you serve,” Cook said during his commencement speech. “I found my life got bigger when I stopped caring about what people thought of me.” Cook explained that when he was younger, he struggled to find purpose in his life. He searched for it in graduate school at Duke University, meditation, religion, and the writings of philosophers. He also joked about a “moment of youthful indiscr...

Indian Army has been deployed in Darjeeling after violence by GJM supporters

Assam
The Army was deployed in the restive Darjeeling town today after Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters indulged in violence and arson while attempting to march to the venue of a cabinet meeting presided by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here. The troops were brought in after the protesters damaged police vehicles and set some of them ablaze, prompting the police to fire teargas and lathicharge the violent GJM supporters who are opposing “imposition” of Bengali language in schools in the hills. The hill town, which is at present full of tourists, had remained peaceful for several months as the GJM-spearheaded agitation for a separate state of Gorkhaland had taken a backseat. Fresh violence erupted this afternoon with the Bimal Gurung-led party calling a protest march towa...

U.K. Election 2017: Shock result as UK election returns hung parliament

UK
LONDON — Political deadlock gripped Britain on Friday as no party won enough seats to form a government — a so-called "hung parliament." The result plunges the country into uncertainty just 10 days before complex and high-stakes talks with Europe over Brexit are due to begin. Although an election had not been due until 2020, Prime Minister Theresa May gambled and sent voters to the ballot box early as she sought to bolster her strength ahead of the talks. Instead, her hold on power was weakened as she lost her majority in the House of Commons. Her Conservatives retained the most seats — 318 out of 650 — but were unable to govern without a deal involving another party. A spokesman said May would visit Queen Elizabeth later to seek permission to form a minority government with the h...
