Chandrasekaran all ready to light up the lives of our future generations with Tata Power

Tata Power Company on Friday announced the appointment of Natarajan Chandrasekaran as the Chairman and Additional Director of the company. He will take the charge on February 11. Chandrasekaran is the Chairman designate of Tata Sons Limited and currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Tata Consultancy Services(TCS).

“Vide their letter dated February 10, 2017, Tata Sons has exercised the authority under the Company’s Articles of Association and nominated N Chandrasekaran as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company with effect from February 11, 2017,” As per news, Tata Power said in a BSE filing

“I am honoured to be appointed as the Chairman of the Board of this historic organization which has been serving the nation for the past 100 years with dedication. It will be my endeavour to help the management team fulfill Tata Power’s commitment to light up the lives of our future generations,” Chandrasekaran was quoted by news agency.

The appointment of N. Chandrasekaran was passed at a Tata power board meeting which was held in the financial capital of India, Mumbai today. At present, Chandrasekaran is the Chairman of Tata steel and Tata motors. He is also director of The Indian Hotels Company Limited and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

On January 12,  Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the Chief Executive Officer of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), had been appointed as the Chairman of the $100 billion conglomerate. Chandrasekaran, 53, becomes the first non-Parise Chairman of Tata Sons. He is credited for the credible gains made by TCS since 2009. In terms of latest statistics, TCS registered a growth of 10.9 per cent in the third quarter, as compared to profit made in the same period in the previous financial year.

Chandrasekaran had joined the Tata Sons board on October 25, 2016, after Cyrus Mistry’s removal.

N. Chandrasekaran joined TCS in 1987 after completing his master’s in computers from Regional Engineering College, Tamil Nadu. Chandrasekaran was conferred with an honorary doctorate by JNTU, Hyderabad, as also the Nyenrode Business Universiteit, Netherlands. He has received honorary degrees from Indian educational institutes such as the Gitam University, the KIIT University, and the SRM University. In 2012-2013, Chandrasekaran was the chairman of the Indian IT industry body National Association of Software and Services Companies.
