My Entry into politics was not my wish: Manohar Parrikar

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said entering politics had not been his wish and he would quit if he found that he was not worthy of staying in politics anymore. He, however, clarified that he was not going to leave the current tenure half way and the state government would complete its term. The chief minister was interacting with an audience during an event organised by a local media group. “Politics is not my family background and hence my entry into it was not as per my wish,” Parrikar, an IIT Bombay graduate, said responding to a question. Parrikar wins Panaji, Vishwajit Rane wins Valpoi in Goa Bypoll for BJP

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has won the Panaji Assembly by-election, defeating his nearest rival, Girish Chodankar of the Congress, by 4,803 votes. Parrikar got 9,862 votes against 5,059 by Chodankar. Goa Suraksha Manch president Anand Shirodkar got only 220 votes, while 301 people opted ‘None of The Above’ or NOTA. By-elections were held in Goa on August 23. Manohar Parrikar was sworn in as Goa Chief Minister in March 2017 after the BJP formed a coalition government with Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and independents. After being sworn in as the Goa Chief Minister for a fourth term on Tuesday, Manohar Parrikar said that the BJP alone, not the Congress, could bring stability to the state and rubbished the Congress' charge that the BJP's coming to power was immoral. He now has to take the trust vote on Thursday (March 16) to prove he has the support of the majority to run the government. Mining can take off Goa to new heights says Parrikar

Days after NCP chief Sharad Pawar accused Manohar Parrikar of being responsible for closing down the mining industry in Goa, the former Chief Minister on Tuesday said mining can be successful in the coastal state only if mine owners control their greed. “Goa was having 50 MT extraction annually when people started mining around all the places in Goa.
