U.K. Election 2017: Shock result as UK election returns hung parliament

UK
LONDON — Political deadlock gripped Britain on Friday as no party won enough seats to form a government — a so-called "hung parliament." The result plunges the country into uncertainty just 10 days before complex and high-stakes talks with Europe over Brexit are due to begin. Although an election had not been due until 2020, Prime Minister Theresa May gambled and sent voters to the ballot box early as she sought to bolster her strength ahead of the talks. Instead, her hold on power was weakened as she lost her majority in the House of Commons. Her Conservatives retained the most seats — 318 out of 650 — but were unable to govern without a deal involving another party. A spokesman said May would visit Queen Elizabeth later to seek permission to form a minority government with the h...

2 terrorist attacks shakes London, Van ploughs into pedestrians, One Died

UK
A van has run over pedestrians and there have been stabbings resulting in “multiple” casualties on Saturday night in the London Bridge area in what police are treating as “terrorist incidents”. Armed British police rushed to London Bridge after reports of the rogue vehicle, with one woman telling Reuters that she saw people who may have had their throats cut. As the nightmare struck London, several people were reported injured in two incidents --- on London Bridge and in nearby Borough Market. Transport for London said busy London Bridge station and two others were closed at the request of police. The incident comes less than three months after an attacker ran down people with a vehicle on Westminster Bridge, killing four, then stabbed a policeman to death outside Parliament. Here are ...

Paris or no Paris, India is and will always be committed to climate protection: PM Modi

National, Russia
India is committed to protecting the climate, irrespective of the Paris agreement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here today but avoided a direct reference to the US withdrawing from the international deal. Addressing the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) here in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said India has traditionally been respecting the nature and desisted from exploiting it. “Paris or no Paris, our commitment to preserving the climate is for the sake of future generations,” Modi said while responding to a question about US President Donald Trump announcing withdrawal of the USA from the Climate Change deal. He said he had made the same comment in Germany three days back when “nobody’s comment had come”, an apparent reference to Trump’s a...

Elon Musk praise India’s aim to move to an all-electric fleet by 2030

National, Technology, USA
Tesla founder Elon Musk hailed India’s aim to move to an all-electric fleet by 2030, on a day when President Donald Trump said the US will withdraw from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Tesla enthusiasts in India may indeed have much to look forward in the coming days, as Musk responded positively to a tweet from Anand Mahindra, who prodded him to bring his electric cars to this country. Musk welcoming India’s move comes close on the heels of the Canadian-American businessman announcing his resignation from all three positions on the Presidential Councils, over Trump’s decision to exit the Paris Climate Agreement. “Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world,” Musk tweeted, not hiding his dismay at the move. While he was upset with the US President, ...

Trump decided to pull the United States from the Paris Climate Accord

USA
Donald Trump has announced the withdrawal of the US from the Paris agreement on climate change, saying he wants to "renegotiate" a fairer deal that would not disadvantage US businesses and workers. Mr Trump, who has made pulling out of the pact – which has been signed by almost 200 nations – a central plank of his run for the presidency, said that in withdrawing he was keeping his campaign promise to put American workers first. He said that "if we can get a deal, that's great. If not, that's fine." The President had been put under extreme pressure by allies around the world to stay in the agreement, and although the administration said his views on the subject were "evolving" – having previously claimed climate change was a "hoax" – Mr Trump refused to be backed into a corner. He said ...

UK Govt to enforce new powers to compel tech giants to hand over encrypted data

UK
UK Govt are apparently using recent terror attacks to bring in new legislation that would force technology giants, such as Apple and WhatsApp, to hand over encrypted data. A report originating with The Sun claims that the Conservative government will lobby MPs to get the new rules, known as the Technical Capability Notices (TCN), through Parliament as quickly as possible after the general election. "We will do this as soon as we can after the election, as long as we get back in," a government minister apparently told The Sun. "The level of threat clearly proves there is no more time to waste now… The social media companies have been laughing in our faces for too long." Companies like Apple and WhatsApp make a major point of keeping users' messages safe. However, if the TCN were passed...
