The newly amended citizenship act (CAA) has aroused fear among Indian citizens that it will deny citizenship to the existing Muslim minority communities in India. However, if one to dive deep into details of this act then it is clear, that it only aims to provide Indian citizenship to religiously persecuted minorities of our neighboring countries i.e. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, provided they entered India before December 31, 2014. Since these countries are Islamic state and roughly 95% of their population is Muslim, hence only their minorities had been named in this bill. India raised the killing of Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla in a hate attack in Kansas with US authorities in “very strong terms”, a top official said on Thursday, adding that the security of Indians and persons of Indian origin is a matter of serious concern for the Indian government.
