Indian Army has been deployed in Darjeeling after violence by GJM supporters

Assam
The Army was deployed in the restive Darjeeling town today after Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters indulged in violence and arson while attempting to march to the venue of a cabinet meeting presided by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here. The troops were brought in after the protesters damaged police vehicles and set some of them ablaze, prompting the police to fire teargas and lathicharge the violent GJM supporters who are opposing “imposition” of Bengali language in schools in the hills. The hill town, which is at present full of tourists, had remained peaceful for several months as the GJM-spearheaded agitation for a separate state of Gorkhaland had taken a backseat. Fresh violence erupted this afternoon with the Bimal Gurung-led party calling a protest march toward...

‘What goes around comes around,’ says Robert Vadra takes a jab on Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi
Long before the India Against Corruption spawned the Aam Aadmi Party, Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, has been a dartboard for the anti-corruption movement's chief strategist Arvind Kejriwal. The "strange obsession", as the businessman described the frequent attacks on him, continued well after Mr Kejriwal became Delhi's Chief Minister. As Mr Kejriwal battles corruption charges levelled by sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra, Mr Vadra weighed in. "What goes around comes around," he said in a Facebook post that noted how people who had hurled "false accusations" at him were facing a "similar plight". "That too from an insider who claims to have substantial proof," he said, reacting to Mr Mishra's allegation that he had seen the Chief Minister take 2 crores ...

AAP sacked Kapil Mishra For ‘Poor Water Management’, Vows to ‘Reveal Conspiracy’

Delhi

The development came on a day when Mishra shot off a letter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau chief demanding to know why the role of former chief minister Sheila Dikshit and other se...

Adityanath will make UP Uttam Pradesh, says BJP

Uttar Pradesh
The choice of Adityanath as the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh has drawn criticism from the opposition parties even as the BJP stood strongly behind its leader. The opposition parties hit out at Adityanath's image of Hindutva hardliner, with Congress leader Veerappa Moily calling his elevation as the "biggest assault" on secularism. "It is a big assault on secularism in the country. Maybe, the BJP or RSS would like to endorse their cause of Hinduism. India is not Hinduism. Hinduism is not India. "India is built above castes and religions and 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family) is the very foundation of our secular society. It is the biggest assault ever done on secularism," Moily said. The BJP leaders strongly defended Adityanath and said he will take the state...

Praising Modi, Shah said, “The only factor for the win is the performance of the Modi government. ... Even his political rivals will have to admit that he has emerged as the tallest leader in the country since Independence.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not make a public appearance, but tweeted: “Am overjoyed that BJP has received unprecedented support from all sections of society....
