Indian Navy diving and medical teams joined rescue efforts of Sri Lankan authorities in flood-hit regions as the death toll in the country’s worst torrential rains since 2003 climbed today to 193. The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said the adverse weather condition had left 112 people injured and nearly 600,000 people have been forced from their homes, with thousands suffering structural damage from flood inundation and landslides. The weather has begun to clear, and many of the more than 100,000 people who evacuated over the weekend had returned home to begin clearing debris and mud from their waterlogged homes. The International Court of Justice on Tuesday stayed the hanging of retired Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, sentenced to death by a military court in Pakistan. Senior advocate Harish Salve is representing India before ICJ. Tweeting about the development Minister of External affairs, said, “I have spoken to the mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav and told her about the order of President, ICJ under Art 74 Paragraph 4 of Rules of Court.”  Jadhav was given death sentence on the charge of “espionage” by the Field General Court Martial last month. India acknowledges that Jadhav had served with the navy but denies that he has any connection with the government.
