The Central government will not do anything "against the sentiments" of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday, amid a raging debate over the fate of Article 35A under which residents of the state get special privileges. He also expressed willingness to meet "anyone who wants to help" in resolving problems of Kashmir, responding to a question as to whether the government is ready to hold talks with the separatists. Singh, who is on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir since September 9, told reporters here that the tree of peace in Kashmir has not dried up and that a permanent solution to Kashmir issue is based on five 'C's -- compassion, communication, coexistence, confidence building and consistency. Time has come to take Pakistan-occupied Kashmir back: Baba Ramdev

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has come out with a very specific demand for the Narendra Modi government- take Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) back from Pakistan. Terming PoK as the root cause of the persistent Kashmir unrest, he said PM should work in this direction to rid the northern state from its longstanding turmoil. "PoK was the cause of all the problems in Jammu and Kashmir. The only solution I think at this point of time is India acquiring the PoK territory into its own. It's because of PoK that Pakistan was successful in pushing terrorists in to India. PM should look into this issue and make a start in a phased manner to acquire PoK", said Baba Ramdev. The British Parliament has passed a motion condemning Pakistan's move to declare Gilgit-Baltistan as its fifth frontier, saying the region is a legal and constitutional part of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1947. The motion was tabled on March 23 and sponsored by Conservative Party leader Bob Blackman. It stated that Pakistan by making such an announcement is implying its attempt to annex the already disputed area. "Gilgit-Baltistan is a legal and constitutional part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India, which is illegally occupied by Pakistan since 1947, and where people are denied their fundamental rights including the right of freedom of expression," the motion read. It was further noted that the attempts to change the demography of the region was in v...

Minister of State (MoS) in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Thursday reiterated that the government would free Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from the illegal occupation of Pakistan. The Union minister added that the government’s objective was to restore Jammu and Kashmir in its original format, that includes Gilgit-Baltistan and PoK. Notably, today is Pakistan's Republic Day. Pakistan Day, or Republic Day, commemorates March 23, 1940, when a resolution was passed in Lahore, to demand a separate homeland for the Muslims. Earlier this month, a committee headed by Pakistan's foreign policy chief Sartaj Aziz had proposed to make Gilgit-Baltistan, the region north of the Line of Control in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir, fifth province. Ind...

The surgical strikes by India at several terrorist launch pads along the Line of Control to prevent infiltration from Pakistan was a “fitting reply” to the repeated incursions on its territorial sovereignty, President Pranab Mukherjee said. Noting that the country is facing the grave challenge of terrorism for the last four decades including cross-border attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Mukherjee, in his address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament on the opening day of the Budget Session, said India will actively cooperate with other nations to decisively defeat terrorist forces. Asserting that the government is committed to combating terrorism and ensure that the perpetrators of such acts are brought to justice, he said, “My government has taken decisive steps to ...

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the people to focus on their responsibilities, not just their rights. “People should focus both duties and rights in our discussions,” he said in his `Mann ki Baat” programme on Sunday. “We only think about our rights but forget our responsibilities. “I urge the citizens to focus on their duties towards the country and fellow citizens as much as they focus on their rights,” he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to soldiers who died in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir. “When we were happily celebrating Republic Day, soldiers were killed in an avalanche,” Modi said in his radio programme `Mann Ki Baat`. “I salute them.” At least 15 soldiers were killed after two avalanches hit a military post and a patrol along...
