Supreme Court dismisses review petition of jailed AIADMK leader Sasikala

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea of jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala seeking review of its verdict convicting and sentencing her to a four-year jail term in a disproportionate assets case. The apex court also rejected her plea for an open court hearing of the review petitions. “We do not find any error in the common judgment impugned, much less an apparent error on the face of the record, so as to call for its review. The review petitions are, accordingly, dismissed,” a bench of Justices S A Bobde and Amitava Roy. No obscene dance or vulgar dialogues during performance: Madras HC

The Madras High Court today allowed holding dance and song programmes during temple festivals stipulating that all performances must be shorn of obscenity, vulgarity and political overtones. Justice K Kalyanasundaram gave the order while considering petitions from various people seeking permissions to hold dance and song programmes during temple festivals. Coke, Pepsi Goes Off The Shelves In Tamil Nadu In Favour Of Locals Drinks

It was announced during the Jallikattu protests which brought thousands of Tamil youths to the Marina beach, and now it has been put into practice. Starting on Wednesday soft drink brands owned by Coca Cola and Pepsi has gone off the shelves in shops across Tamil Nadu. According to reports some twenty lakhs small and large traders across the state have said no to the multinational companies, while they will continue to be available in some supermarkets. In January, the traders body had taken the decision to boycott the soft drinks and instead support local products. The move was in protest to what they alleged as the undue exploitation of the groundwater by companies even while local farmers struggle to find water to irrigate their crops. Sasikala meets legislators at resort, except Thambidurai all MPs to join OPS camp

The Tamil Nadu political crisis is turning into a pot boiler. Sasikala Natrajan held a meeting with the AIADMK MLAs at the resort before the leaving the venue. Earlier as Sasikala made her entry into the Golden Bay resort, several AIADMK MLAs chanted slogans in her favour. Reports suggest that a new legislature party leader may be appointed. O Panneerselvam sworn in as new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, retains Jaya Cabinet

Following the demise of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, O Panneerselvam was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a simple function held at Raj Bhavan in the wee hours of Tuesday. Along with him 31 Cabinet Ministers were also sworn in. Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to the Council of Ministers. For Panneerselvam, it is the third term as Chief Minister. Earlier, he held the office in 2001 and 2014. After he assumed the office, the rest of the Ministers took the oath together and the swearing in ceremony was over within 10 minutes.
