Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited had a bevy of announcements centered around Jio on Friday. Friday was also supposedly the last day before Jio starts charging customers to avail its 4G services. The company informed that its promotional Prime offer had received a whopping 7.2 crore subscriptions in one month, and that it was extending its timeline to April 15, albeit with a slight twist.
“Customers who could not enroll for Jio Prime by March 31 for whatever reason can still do so by paying Rs 99 along with their first purchase of Jio’s Rs 303 and other plans till April 15,” the company said in a statement. This means, all existing and first-time Jio users can still avail Prime and the host of benefits that the scheme brings along with it until April 15 provided they make their first-time recharge of Rs 303 or lower depending on the tariff they wish to chose. Prime was supposed to technically end on March 31 previously.
At the same time, RIL also announced that those who have already enrolled for Prime can make their first recharge until April 15. This means, they can continue to use Jio 4G services until the said date without subscribing to a tariff plan. They will, however, need to make a decision regarding the same (and purchase a desired plan) on or before April 15.
“This extension will provide the necessary breathing room for users to avoid service disruption during the transition from free to paid services,” the company said.
Also, those who make a choice – to continue or discontinue with Jio – before April 15 and purchase a Rs 303 plan or higher will be eligible for Jio’s complimentary Summer Surprise offer under which they will not have to recharge again for three months on the go.
“Every Jio Prime member, when they make their first paid recharge prior to April 15 using Jio’s Rs 303 plan (or any higher value plan) will get services for the initial 3 months on a complimentary basis,” the company added. The paid tariff plan will be applied only in July, after the expiry of the complimentary service.
In a bid to generate hype and lure more people into jumping aboard, RIL introduced Jio Prime starting from March 1. The benefits that it brings to the table include:
- Unlimited benefits of free voice (Local, STD, Roaming, to any operator, anywhere in India), data and SMS that you have been currently using till March 31, 2018 for Rs 303 per month. You could also choose to enhance your benefits at nominal incremental fees.
- Complimentary benefit of Jio’s premium content bouquet worth Rs 10,000 for an entire year.
Subscribers, both old and new, can avail the offer through Rs 99 recharge pack. There a number of ways in which this can be done. “Recharge with Rs 99 Jio Prime membership before 31 March 2017 from MyJio, JioMoney, Jio.com or nearest retailer,” notes the company.
